National Teaching Council Announces 2024 Teacher Licensure Examination



Introduction:


The National Teaching Council (NTC) of Ghana has officially announced the registration process for the 2024 Ghana Teacher Licensure Examination (GTLE 3). This examination is a critical step in the certification process for teachers in Ghana, aimed at ensuring that only qualified candidates enter the teaching profession. Mandated by the Education Regulatory Bodies Act 2020 (Act 1023), the GTLE serves to evaluate whether aspiring teachers possess the necessary professional knowledge, skills, and values required to effectively teach and contribute to the educational system.




Form of the Examination:


All fresh candidates are expected to sit for three key papers:


1. General Professional Knowledge: This paper covers essential areas such as numeracy, literacy, and professional skills critical to teaching.


2. Grade-level Specific Pedagogy: This is a specialized paper that varies based on the level the candidate intends to teach. Categories include:


   - Early Grade/Early Childhood


   - Primary


   - Junior High School (JHS)/Senior High School (SHS) and Technical Vocational Schools


3. Content Knowledge (Subject Specialism): Depending on their training, candidates will either take a Multiple Subjects Content paper (for Early Grade/Primary teachers) or a Single Subject Content paper (for those trained for Junior High, Senior High, or Technical Vocational Education and Training - TVET).

Eligibility Criteria:


To be eligible for the 2024 GTLE 3, candidates must have completed a Bachelor of Education Degree or a Postgraduate Diploma in Education. For candidates with foreign degrees, a certificate evaluation report from the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC) is required to prove their eligibility.




Indexing Process for Fresh Candidates:


Before registering for the GTLE, fresh candidates must go through an indexing process:


1. Candidates should visit [indexing.ntc.gov.gh](https://indexing.ntc.gov.gh) to confirm if their training institution has uploaded their data.


2. If confirmed, candidates can proceed with the GTLE registration.


3. There is a GHS 50.00 fee for the indexing process, which must be paid at designated banks.




Registration Process:


Candidates must complete the registration process by following these steps:


1. Payment for the exam is made at either Prudential Bank Ltd or GCB Bank PLC using specific shortcodes provided.


   - Fresh candidates: GHS 450.00 for three papers.


   - Re-sitting one paper: GHS 150.00


   - Re-sitting two papers: GHS 210.00


   - Re-sitting three papers: GHS 385.00


2. Candidates must then log in to [exams.ntc.gov.gh](https://exams.ntc.gov.gh) with their PIN and Serial Number to complete their registration and upload a passport-sized photograph.




Important Notes:


- Candidates must ensure their details are correctly entered during registration, as changes will not be allowed after submission.


- The deadline for registration is 5th September 2024. No extensions will be granted.


- The examination is scheduled for 18th - 20th September 2024.


- Only qualified candidates should register, as fees are non-refundable.
