Accra, Ghana – August 8, 2024 – The Ministry of Interior has announced a revision of the curfew hours in Sampa Township, located in the Jaman North District of the Bono Region. This decision, made on the advice of the Bono Regional Security Council, was communicated through an official letter signed by the Minister for the Interior, Hon. Henry Quartey (MP).
Effective Thursday, August 8, 2024, the curfew hours in Sampa Township have been adjusted from the previous hours of 6:00 pm to 6:00 am to the new hours of 10:00 pm to 6:00 am each day. The adjustment is part of ongoing efforts to maintain peace and security within the region while allowing for more flexibility in the daily activities of the residents.
The government has also issued a call for calm among the Chiefs, Elders, Opinion Leaders, Youth, and the general populace of Sampa Township. In light of the challenges facing the community, the government is urging all individuals to exercise restraint and to utilize peaceful and non-violent methods to address their grievances. The focus, according to the Ministry, should be on channeling collective efforts towards ensuring lasting peace in the area.
In a related directive, the Ministry has reiterated the total ban on the possession of arms, ammunition, and any offensive weapons within the Bawku Municipality and its surrounding areas. The government warns that anyone found in possession of such weapons will face arrest and prosecution, emphasizing the commitment to maintaining law and order across all affected regions.
The Ministry’s statement underscores the government’s ongoing commitment to safeguarding the peace and security of all citizens, particularly in areas experiencing heightened tensions.
The curfew adjustments and the ban on weapons are immediate and are expected to remain in force until further notice. The government remains in close consultation with regional authorities to monitor the situation and to make any necessary further adjustments.
