GES Requests Submission of New Subject Combinations Ahead of Curriculum Rollout


The Ghana Education Service (GES) has issued a directive to all Senior High and Senior High Technical Schools (SHS/SHTS), as well as Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics (STEM) Schools, to submit their preferred subject combinations in preparation for the upcoming rollout of the new standards-based curriculum. This initiative is being conducted in collaboration with the National Council for Curriculum and Assessment (NaCCA).



In a letter dated August 6, 2024, and addressed to the Regional Directors of Education, GES emphasized the importance of equipping heads and academic leaders of schools with the necessary knowledge and skills to effectively implement the new curriculum. To this end, a series of sensitization and capacity-building workshops have been organized for all Heads and Assistant Heads of Academics.


The new curriculum is designed to provide learners with greater flexibility in choosing their subject combinations based on their preferred learning areas. This approach is expected to offer students more options when considering future career paths at the tertiary level.


As part of the preparations for the national rollout, the GES has requested all school heads to submit their proposed subject combinations by August 20, 2024. These combinations should be based on the resources available in their respective schools. Submissions should be made to the Schools and Instructions Division of the GES headquarters, with a copy sent to the Executive Director of T-Tel Ghana via the provided email addresses.


Regional Directors have been tasked with ensuring that all Second Cycle Schools within their jurisdiction are informed of this requirement and that the submissions are made by the stipulated deadline.



This move by the GES underscores the commitment to implementing a more flexible and student-centered curriculum that aligns with the evolving educational needs of Ghanaian students.
